Baseball's Seven-Game Win Streak Snapped by William Paterson

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville baseball snapped its seven-game winning streak with a 24-11 loss against William Paterson University. The Valiants (24-9) take the ninth loss of the year as the Pioneers move to 14-19.

Chris Goohs (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown H.S. East) led the offensive efforts by going 4-for-5 with three RBI and one run, a long ball away from a cycle. Will Forgione (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) made his first start of the year, getting a single in his sole at bat, scoring two, and crossing home plate once. Five additional Valiants tallied an RBI in an effort to keep the game within reach as the Pioneers continued to find opportunities in the zone.

After the Valiants jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, the visitors quickly tied the game on a home run followed by two quick singles. Manhattanville was able to hold a slim 7-4 lead for two innings before William Paterson added on eight runs on eight hits in the top of the fourth inning.

Goohs sent a hard-hit ball through the right side of the infield to score Griffin White (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Michael Torres (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) added one more with a bases-loaded walk.

The Pioneers sent a rocket over the wall in left to add three more to the lead at the top of the fifth, with a fourth coming home on a wild pitch.

Alex Exarchakis (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) scored Goohs with a single into right field, followed by a shot down the left line to bring home Alex Enjem (Derby, Conn./Derby), putting the game within five in the bottom of the sixth.

William Paterson shut down Manhattanville's offense in the final two innings with six up six down, while adding eight runs to the total, resulting in the 24-11 mercy-rule loss in eight innings.

Up Next – The Valiants head into the final three series of the regular season with the road weekend starting at Old Westbury on Saturday and Purchase on Sunday.
