Men's Tennis Runs Table With Perfect Conference Season, Clinch No. 1 Seed with Win at USMMA

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – For the first time since 2023, the Manhattanville University men's tennis team has clinched the Skyline Conference regular season crown, running the table in conference play with an 8-0 record after Friday's 6-1 victory at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Valiants have earned the No. 1 seed for next week's Skyline Conference Championship Tournament, securing a first round bye and home court advantage through the tournament.

Manhattanville swept all three doubles flights to snag the opening point. Nicholas Gervasi (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Epsom College) and Sami Badre-Hume (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep) were the first duo to pick up the win, defeating Travis Boyd and Travis Filer 6-2 in the No. 3 flight. Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) and Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) won by a matching score in No. 2s against Keegan Dutton and Aaron Zhao before Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) and Kazuma Kato (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan/Aioi Gakuin) took down Fredrich Buquel and Brent Mathews 6-4 in the top flight.

Kato secured the opening singles point with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Buquel in No. 2s, while the remaining five flights all came down to the wire. In No. 6s, Badre-Hume outlasted Alex Lewis 6-4, 7-5, while Gervasi needed a third set to defeat Zach Diep in No. 5s, bouncing back from a 5-7 opening set loss to take the next two, 6-4, 6-0. On the show court, Jouanneau held off Mathews 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), before Charretteur defeated Zhao in No. 3s play, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

USMMA earned their lone point in another marathon effort in No. 4s, with Guzman ultimately falling to Dutton 6-7 (8-10), 5-7.
