Men's Tennis Defeats Yeshiva in Skyline Semis, Advances to Championship Match on Friday

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University men's tennis team is headed back to the Skyline Conference Championship finals as the top-seeded Valiants defeated No. 4 Yeshiva 4-0 in the semifinal round on Wednesday afternoon. Manhattanville advances to take on No. 2 Farmingdale State on Friday, heading to the championship finals for the fifth time in the last six years.

Manhattanville got the sweep started with the Valiants' top pairing of Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) and Kazuma Kato (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan/Aioi Gakuin) blanking Israel Bussu and Aidan Stephen 6-0 on the show court. A short while after, Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) and Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) notched a 6-3 win over Matan Kamhi and Jack Radinsky in No. 2s to nab the doubles point. Nicholas Gervasi (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Epsom College) and Sami Badre-Hume (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep) led Jacob Feit and Akiva Gelernter 5-4 in the unfinished No. 3 doubles draw.

The Valiants earned the win with victories in the top three singles matchups. Charretteur was the first to finish, defeating Bussu 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 slot. Kato then took the win in No. 2s over Feit, 6-2, 6-4, before Jouanneau defeated Kamhi for the match-winner, 6-4, 6-0.

In the unfinished flights, Guzman dropped the opening set in No. 4s to Stephen 2-6 before leading the second, 4-1. Gervasi took his opening set against Gelernter 6-4 and fell in the second 3-6 when the match came to an end, while Badre-Hume defeated Radinsky 7-5 in the first set on court 6 and was trailing 2-3 in the second.

The Valiants play for a championship on Friday at 1 p.m., hosting Farmingdale in the title match between the conference's top two seeds.
