RIVERDALE, N.Y – Manhattanville men's lacrosse won its first conference game over Mount Saint Vincent 8-6 on the road Wednesday night. The Valiants move to 4-6 (2-1 SKY) while the Dolphins fall to 4-8 (1-2 SKY).
Joe Ulzheimer (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) powered the defense by posting a .667 save percentage between the posts, making 12 critical saves on six goals. Frank Tallerico (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) netted three goals for the Valiants while leading the team with five groundballs.
Nick Corace (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) sat aside the junior with three goals while causing a turnover and grabbing two grounders. Ryan Newman (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) caused three Dolphin turnovers, grabbing five groundballs alongside Tallerico.
The game started with a goal from Tallerico just over three minutes into the first period, putting the Valiants ahead. Two goals, 50 seconds apart, put the home team ahead. With two minutes remaining, Corace found the back of the net off a transition ball to knot the game up at two.
Less than a minute into the second quarter, Corace struck again to regain the lead. The Dolphins tied the game in a man-up situation 50 seconds before the break.
Corace found his way through the defense for his third goal to put his team ahead one just before the midpoint of the third quarter. The home team took two more goals before Dylan Foley (Northport, N.Y./Northport) found Drew Palladino (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) to meet at five. Jack Roberts (Middlefield, CT/Lyman Hall) found Foley, scoring his own goal to put his team up heading into the final 15.
In a man-up opportunity, Roberts found Tallerico to push the lead out to two, 7-5. Tallerico struck three minutes later, adding cushion to the lead. The Dolphins added one goal late, ultimately falling to the Valiants 8-6.
