ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University men's tennis team wrapped its stretch of three matches in as many days on Thursday afternoon, picking up a 7-0 win at Bard College. The Valiants improve to 6-7 on the year with the win, now having earned five-straight victories over fellow Division III opponents.
Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) and
Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) picked up the first of Manhattanville's two doubles victories on the No. 2 flight, defeating Ciaran Chamberlain and Faisal Jones, 6-1.
Kazuma Kato (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan/Aioi Gakuin) and
Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) secured the doubles point for the Valiants with the 6-2 victory over Nicholas Oh and Blake Kendall in the No. 1 showdown.
Sami Badre-Hume (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep) and
John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) dropped a 6-4 decision to Thanasis Kostikas and Peter Trimble in the No. 3 flight, but Manhattanville still carried the 1-0 lead into singles action.
The Valiants swept all six singles flights, led by Charretteur taking a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kendall in No. 3s to open play.
Robert Zomer (Bussum, the Netherlands/Sint Vituscollege) was the next to finish his win, defeating Chamberlain 6-3, 6-0 in No. 6s.
Nicholas Gervasi (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Epsom College) then defeated Jones, 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 flight.
Kato bested Kostikas 6-1, 6-3 in No. 2s ahead of Jouanneau's 6-2, 6-2 victory against Oh in the No. 1 flight. Guzman then capped off the sweep with the final victory, outlasting Jones 6-1, 7-5 in No. 5s.
