BRONX, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University men's tennis team continued its marathon match week on Wednesday afternoon, falling 7-0 at Division I Fordham. The loss drops the Valiants' overall record to 5-7 on the year.
The Valiants put up solid efforts in doubles against the opposition two divisions above them, winning eight total sets across the three flights.
Kazuma Kato (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan/Aioi Gakuin) and
Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) were felled by Dhananjay Athreya and Dhillon Virdee-Oakley in the top flight, 3-6, while
Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) and
Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) fell 2-6 in the No. 2 tilt to Ruben Russwurm and Diego Cueto.
Nicholas Gervasi (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Epsom College) and Sami-Badre Hume were able to win three sets against Cristian Ramos and Timotej Stofa in No. 3s before the match was wrapped with the Valiants down 5-3 at the conclusion of the other two flights.
The Rams swept the six singles flights to complete the win. Jouanneau was defeated 6-2, 6-0 by Mateusz Gradski in the top flight, while Kato fell to Will Lokier 6-0, 6-2 in No. 2s. Charretteur was bested by Cueto 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3s action and Guzman was toppled by Stofa on the No. 4 court, 6-0, 6-4. Gervasi and Badre-Hum wrapped out the day in No. 5s and No. 6s, with the former dropping a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Russwurm and the latter losing 6-0, 6-2 to Ramos.
