WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Manhattanville University field hockey team earned its first road victory of the 2026 season on Monday evening, defeating the University of Saint Joseph 2-1. The win moves the Valiants' record on the young campaign to 2-3 overall.
Manhattanville wasted little time getting things started as
Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) scored on the Valiants' second shot of the affair just 4:18 into the game. Guinan has been red-hot to begin her senior season, now with four goals through five games. The Seaford native has already matched her career-high in goals scored from each of the last two seasons and is the first Valiant to double figures in points with ten on the campaign.
The Valiants carried the one-goal advantage into the half, outshooting the Blue Jays 6-1 across the opening 30 minutes. After the intermission,
Emma Masie (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) doubled the Valiant advantage with her second goal of the season. The sophomore fired home Manhattanville's first shot of the half just 1:36 into the new period to put the visitors up a pair.
From there, it was the
Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) show in the cage. After not facing a shot on target in the first half, the Valiants' senior goalie was tested frequently over the remaining 30 minutes as the Blue Jay attack came to life in search of a comeback. Doherty made four saves in the ten minutes after Masie's tally before the Saint Joseph attack finally broke through on the team's fourth corner of the quarter to make it a one score game.
That would be all Doherty would surrender, holding the Blue Jays to just one goal while making 12 stops. Monday marked the third time already this season that Doherty had made 12 or more saves as she earned her 10
th victory in a Valiant uniform.
Aiding Doherty on the defensive front was
Adriana Ingegneri (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), as the freshman provided the first defensive save of her young career off the bench. Ingegneri immediately denied the Blue Jays' tying bid 19 seconds after their goal to preserve Manhattanville's lead.
Doherty survived a final barrage over the final ten minutes, making her final five saves as the Valiants fought off six cards and eight Saint Joseph corners.
Guinan led the Valiants with three of the team's six shots on goal.
Emelina Leccese (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point / Islanders Elite) was the only other Manhattanville attacker with multiple shot attempts in the win, finishing with a pair.
