PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville field hockey dropped heartbreaking overtime loss to FDU-Florham 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Valiants fall to 2-4 while the Devils improve to 3-2.
Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) scored the lone goal for the Valiants. Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) recorded nine saves, two coming at critical points throughout the fourth quarter to keep the game tied.
Guinan's fifth goal of the season came after a first half offensive drought for both teams. Two minutes into the third quarter, the senior battled through the circle firing the first ball into a diving keeper and spinning around to send the ball into the back of the cage.
A scramble in front of the goal caused a stroke to be called in favor of the Devils, tying the game with 13 minutes left to play and ultimately forcing overtime.
Three minutes into overtime, FDU found its way into the circle to draw a corner. On the insert, the ball was whipped down low and tipped in for the win.
