PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville University men's soccer hosted No. 5 Rowan in a Sunday standoff at GoValiants.com Field. The Valiants (4-1-3) suffers its first loss of the season, 7-0, while the Profs (5-0-1) remain untouched.
The Valiants held their own to start the match, Peter Scotto (North Bellmore, N.Y./Wellington C. Mepham) fired off the first shot of the day for the home team into the crowd of Profs. Dwayne Brown recorded his first save coming out to stop a break away. The first 25 minutes of play presented an even matched defensive battle.
At the 26-minute mark the Profs had its best opportunity to date with Brown recording a sliding save. The ball ricocheted back to the offense as Zach Foltz (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Carmel) stood tall behind his keeper to record a team save.
The visitors forced a turnover on its offensive side of the field, just past minute 30, to take the one-on-one opportunity, sending the ball over Brown and into the back right corner of the net.
Capitalizing on a scramble in front of the net followed by overpowering the Valiants in the box, the Profs added on two goals to its lead within the 52nd minute of the game.
The home team fought for a corner kick as Keanu Stingone (Kew Gardens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) fired towards the goal unable to complete the play. Stingone and Sean Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas/Travis Early College) fired for a combined three shots on goal in the second half.
Rowan continued to dominate offensively throughout the second half, reaching 7-0 to conclude the match.
