PURCHASE, N.Y. - A late goal from Alec Pineda (Yonkers, N.Y./Port Chester) lifted Manhattanville University to a 2-1 victory over Old Westbury (2-4-1, 1-1 SKY) on Tuesday evening at GoValliants.com Field. With the win, the Valiants climb to 5-1-2 overall and 2-0-0 in Skyline Conference play.
The Valiants opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Manuel Morales (Madrid, Spain/International College Spain) found the back of the net for his first goal of the season off an assist from Nickolas Pagan (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream North), who made his third assist of the season, putting Manhattanville at a 1-0 advantage. Old Westbury responded shortly before halftime as Alexander Jorgensen scored in the 43rd minute off an assist from Johan Gran, sending the teams into the break tied at 1-1.
The Valiants continued to apply pressure throughout the second half, recording 15 shots over the final 45 minutes. The Valiants finally broke through with just over five minute remaining. In the 85th minute, Pineda delivered the game-winning goal, putting Manhattanville back in front 2-1. Pineda recorded his third goal of the season.
Pineda led the Manhattanville attack with six shots, while Morales finished with three shots. Kenneth Suqui (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow) added two shots and Tiernan McLaughlin (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) recorded one shot. Pagan supplied the Valiants' loan assist of the contest.
In net, Jesse James de Ruiter (Hoensbroek, the Netherlands/Eijkhagen Charlemagne College) played the full 90 minutes, making one save and allowing one goal.
Manhattanville controlled much of the offensive action, firing 25 shots compared to 13 from Old Westbury. The Valiants also generated seven corner kicks while limiting the Panthers to two.
