PURCHASE, N.Y. – Manhattanville University field hockey earned its second home victory of the season over Cedar Crest College on Tuesday afternoon. The Valiants (3-5) snap a two-game losing streak while the Falcons (2-4) drop its second consecutive.
In the first quarter the Valiants jumped ahead with two goals, allowing a strong defensive front to shut down the Falcons.
Just under seven minutes into the game, Manhattanville came set for a penalty corner with Shannon Keena (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) at the base. Kenna sent a quick insert up to Sabina Cosmo (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) who sent a rocket towards the keeper. Hustling over from the insert, Keena got her stick down for the picture-perfect tip over the goalie into the back left of the net.
Kiera Guinan continues her scoring streak with her fourth straight game finding the back of the cage. She leads her team with seven goals on the season. Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) totaled five saves in the first half including a double pad stack to stop a two-on-goalie breakaway.
After a back-and-forth defensive battle throughout the third quarter, with less than two minutes remaining in the game the Falcons found the back of the cage on a corner to avoid the shutout.
