NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's tennis team suffered its first setback of the young season on Wednesday night, falling at New Paltz 7-0. The Valiants drop to 1-1 with the loss.
The Hawks came out strong in doubles play, dropping just one game point across all three courts.
Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and
Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) had the strongest showing by the Valiants on the show court, falling to Sam Ostrander and Lula Brown-Vann 6-1.
Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and
Maddie Maras (Brunswick, M.D./Brunswick) were blanked 6-0 by Patrycja Filonik and Alex Krol in No. 2s, while
Mikhalia Grant (Montego Bay, Jamaica/New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science II) and
Bianca Reyna (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) were defeated by a matching score in No. 3s by Angelica Gabriel and Olivia Kunz.
In singles action, Lalman had the best performance of the night in her No. 2s draw against Filonik, ultimately falling in a 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 thriller.
Filippelli was ousted by Ostrander in the top billing, 6-1, 6-2. Gutierrez and Grant were defeated respectively by Krol and Kunz in No. 3 and No. 5 action, both falling 6-0, 6-0. Maras was bested by Gabriel 6-0, 6-1 on Court No. 4, while Reyna was defeated by Alyssa Trokie 6-0, 6-1 in No. 6s action.
