THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Manhattanville University women's soccer won its second-straight in dominant 3-0 shutout of Maritime College on Friday evening. The Valiants (3-3, 2-1 SKY) earn its second conference win while the Privateers (2-4-1, 1-2 SKY) drop second consecutive.
Taylor Morrill (New Windsor, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) scored her first collegiate goal in her longest outing in her career, playing all 90 minutes, to get the Valiants on the board. After Drita Tinaj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) brought the ball down the left side to draw the keeper, Morrill received the pass and finished to the lower left corner.
The defense held strong through the remainder of the first half, with the home team firing two shots direct to Gabrielle Billetz (Clarksburg, Mass./Hoosac Valley).
Audrey Fenninger (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) joined Morrill in scoring her first collegiate goal, heading the ball from Jazleen Vega (Land O' Lakes, Fla./Sunlake) over the defense and into the back of the net. Ten minutes later, Vega tallied one for herself, unassisted, after taking the ball down the right side and finishing into the center of the goal.
The Valiants held the Privateers to just one off-target shot in the second half while withholding them from taking any corners. Over the course of the 90 minutes, the Vals outshot the home team 17-to-four while fighting for 10 corners and sending nine shots on target.
