DANBURY, CONN. – Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) put away the first two goals of the season in the 3-2 overtime loss at Western Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon. The Valiants are now 0-2 while the Wolves even out to 2-2.
Guinan scored her second and third career goals against the Wolves with her first time finding the back of the cage since the team's victory back on Sept. 11, 2024. Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) tied her career high for saves, knocking down 14 out of 17 shots. This is her second consecutive game with over 10 saves.
WestConn came out of the gate hot with the first goal coming just 25 seconds into the first quarter. Just five seconds post goal, Doherty recorded her first save of the night. Alexandria Maresca (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) took the first penalty corner of the night but the Valiants failed to convert.
Quarter two started off with a penalty corner for the home team which resulting in a Doherty save followed directly by a defensive save from Maresca. The Valiants were held outside of the circle in the remainder of the first half while stopping three additional shots.
Fiona Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) found Guinan early in the second half to get the Valiants on the board for the first time of the 2026 campaign. WestConn converted on a penalty corner two minutes later to regain the lead.
In the final 15, Guinan took it upon herself to battle through the defense and knot the game up at two.
After two corners to start the overtime period, Doherty grabbed one more save and F.Doherty added the second defensive save of the day to her stat sheet.
The Wolves secured its second win of the season off a penalty stroke.
