PURCHASE, N.Y. –
It was a rough day for the Manhattanville women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field, as the Valiants were defeated by Wilkes, 3-0, in Freedom Conference play. The Colonels remain undefeated in conference play as they up their record to 2-0-2 while the defending Freedom Conference champions fall to 1-3 on the Freedom slate.

Wilkes scored two of its three goals in the first 45 minutes of play to take a two-goal advantage into the half. The Colonels struck quickly, when Jana Martin took a cross from Katie Cocchi at the back post and deflected it into an open net just 2:22 into the contest to put Wilkes up a goal. In the 36th minute of play, Wilkes would strike again when Amy Davies took the ball and shot it off of Manhattanville junior keeper Brianna Scapperotti (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) and into the net to put the Colonels up by a pair going into halftime.

The Colonels went into halftime with an 8-4 edge in total shots, with Scapperotti making one save and Wilkes keeper Sam Lindo turning aside all three shots she faced.

Over eight minutes into the second half, Ashley Graham fed the ball to Martin who was able to beat Scapperotti near side for her second goal of the day and fifth of the year to make it 3-0. The Valiants held Wilkes scoreless the rest of the day, but could not get anything going offensively.

The Valiants were outshot 16-9 for the afternoon. Scapperotti stopped five shots and also emerged unscathed on a Katy Fissel penalty kick in the second half, as Fissel missed high and wide. Lindo made six saves for the Colonels and also received a team stop when a Wilkes defender cleared a Valiant header off the line.

Manhattanville (2-13-0, 1-3-0 Freedom) will return to action on Tuesday, when the Valiants travel to Pennsylvania to take on Delaware Valley in a Freedom contest scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. Wilkes (6-3-3, 2-0-2 Freedom) returns home to host King's (Pa.) on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
