CLERMONT,
Fla. – For the second straight day, one bad inning was enough to do in the Manhattanville softball team in Florida, as the Valiants allowed seven runs in the second inning in suffering a 7-4 defeat to Oswego State University on day two of the NTC Spring Games.

Manhattanville jumped out ahead in Sunday's lone game of the day, as the Valiants scored four times in the opening frame on three hits. Junior Ashley Dell (Huntington Station, N.Y./Huntington) drove in a pair of runs and senior Lindsay Zekus (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow) also had an RBI in the first inning. However, seven Laker runs in the second inning provided the remainder of the scoring.

Sophomore Brianna Scapperotti (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) led the team with three hits in four plate appearances, while Zekus, Dell and sophomores Kim Angiolillo (White Plains, N.Y./Good Counsel Academy) and Amanda Locke (Brasher Falls, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) all had two hits apiece for Manhattanville.

Sophomore Michelle Ferlito (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) suffered the loss in the circle for Manhattanville, allowing all seven runs (four earned) on four hits in two innings of work. Senior Samantha Howe (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) came on in relief later to toss three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out three.

After a day off on Monday, Manhattanville (1-2, 0-0 Freedom) will conclude its brief Spring Break trip on Tuesday with a pair of games against NFCA #5 Messiah College and Ripon College at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively.
