MADISON, N.J. – The Manhattanville men's lacrosse woes continued in a low-scoring defeat at the hands of MAC local rival FDU-Florham, 6-2, on a rainy Wednesday evening at Robert T. Shields Field.
The Valiants battled early on with the Devils and took a 1-0 lead as junior Conor McAndrew (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) scored an unassisted goal with 3:17 remaining in the opening quarter. The Devils tied the contest with 1:42 left and then scored the next five unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead after the third quarter.
The Valiants scored on a man-down situation in the fourth quarter as senior Mike Strauss (Newark, Del./Wilmington Charter) hit the back of the cage with 2:30 left. The hosts outshot the Valiants 37-15 and went 2-of-9 on extra man opportunities.
Leading FDU-Florham was Paul Colflesh with three goals. Cody McHugh also had three points with two goals and an assist. Dino Vitale made seven saves in the victory and sophomore Dom Poletto (Engelwood, Colo./Regis Jesuit) made 15 saves in the loss.
Manhattanville (2-9, 0-7 MAC) will travel to Alvernia for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon.
