PURCHASE, N.Y.
– Breana Kilpatrick and Sara Franckowiak combined for 10 goals and 14 points to lead the FDU-Florham Devils to a 19-10 victory over Manhattanville in a wet Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse matchup on Wednesday evening at a rain-soaked GoValiants.com Field.

The Devils were essentially a four-woman show on the offensive end, as Kilpatrick, Franckowiak, Erika Depelteau and Lindsey Parent combined for 17 of the team's 19 goals and also recorded seven of the Devils' nine assists. Kilpatrick led all players with six goals, followed by Franckowiak with four goals and three helpers. Depelteau added four goals and one assist, while Patent has three goals and two assists.

Manhattanville's leading scorer was sophomore Melissa Goncalves (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) with three goals and two assists. Freshman Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) chipped in three scores and senior Darby Webber (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) reach the three-point plateau as well on two goals and an assist.

In a battle of two teams fighting for postseason positioning, FDU-Florham came out strong on the offensive end in the first half, firing 32 shots toward the Valiant net in the first 30 minutes. Twenty-two of those shots ended up on goal, with 12 finding the back of the net. Manhattanville, meanwhile, took just 12 shots total and scored on five, giving the visitors a 12-5 edge at halftime.

The key to the Devil attack was in their response to Manhattanville tallies, as the Valiants could not string together more than one goal in a row in the first half. FDU, meanwhile, had a trio of three-goal runs in the half to stretch out its lead, which reached seven on a Sara Slicken tally with nine seconds left in the frame.

The Valiant defense was able to slow down the Devil offense somewhat in the second half, holding the visitors to 12 shots and actually posting a 13-12 edge in shots for the frame. The home team got within six goals on the first possession of the second half on a score by senior Emelda Ogweta (Portland, Maine/Kents Hill), but a subsequent 5-1 run by FDU helped to put the game out of reach.

For the game, FDU-Florham posted a 44-25 edge in shots, although the ground-ball battle was fairly even (FDU, 22-19) and the Valiants were able to control more draws on the night (16-15).

Senior Kirstin Betsill (Parkton, Md./Hereford) suffered the loss for Manhattanville despite making 12 saves, in the process passing Angela Lozado '02 to become the school's all-time leader in saves with 618 stops in four seasons. FDU-Florham's Ashley Smith earned the win by making nine saves.

Manhattanville (5-5, 4-4 MAC) will be back home on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants face Alvernia University in another very important Middle Atlantic Conference contest starting at 1 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field. FDU-Florham (8-4, 7-2 MAC) will host Wilkes University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
