READING, PA. –
The Manhattanville men's lacrosse snapped their seven-game conference losing streak as they easily defeated Alvernia University, 9-1, on a cloudy Saturday afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field.

Three Valiants finished the game with multiple goals, as senior Mike Strauss (Newark, Del./Wilmington Charter), junior Joe Daly (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and sophomore Billy Motherway found the back of the net for the visitors. Strauss and sophomore Will Sahakian (Natick, Mass./Rivers School) led the team with three points on the afternoon. Sophomore Dom Poletto (Engelwood, Colo./Regis Jesuit) was spectacular in goal allowing just one to slip by him and made 15 saves for his third victory of the year.

The Valiants outshot the Crusaders 48-29 in the contest and played very smart taking just two penalties. The Valiants raced out to a 7-0 lead midway through the third quarter, as Sahakian started the rush for this squad off a nice pass from freshman Kyle Ekstrom (Newtown, Conn./Canterbury). The Valiants added two more goals in the opening frame as Daly and Strauss added goals to give Manhattanville a 3-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Strauss found Motherway for his first of the contest with 3:29 remaining, followed by another tally just 22 seconds later as freshman Justin Figueroa (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) scored his first collegiate goal.  Motherway cashed-in on his second of the contest to begin the third quarter and then 20 seconds later, senior James Frommert (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) scored his second on the year from Sahakian.

The Valiants added two more goals in the final quarter, with the two upperclassmen Strauss and Daly adding tallies.

Manhattanville (3-9, 1-7 MAC) will take on conference rivals DeSales University next Thursday, April 21 at 4 p.m. from GoValiants.com Field. Live Video and stats will be made available before the game (weather permitting).
