LEVITTOWN, N.Y. –
The Manhattanville men's lacrosse team fell in their neutral site game to the Plattsburgh Cardinals at Division Avenue High School on Long Island by the score of 17-9. Freshman Paddy McClernon (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) made 15 saves in his collegiate debut in goal for the Valiants.

The Cardinals jumped out of the gate quickly, scoring just 17 seconds into the game as Joey Kramer opened the game with a swift tally. Over the next six minutes James Reed scored the first three goals of his career for a natural hat trick and give Plattsburgh a 4-0 lead. Reed finished the game with five goals and nine points to lead all players.

Junior Will Sahakian (Natick, Mass./Rivers School) snapped the streak by netting Manhattanville's first goal of the game with 8:08 to go in the first period. Sophomore Jeb Miller (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) scored the next one for the Valiants and cut the lead in half at 4-2. Plattsburgh scored the last two goals of the frame, however, to take a 6-2 lead into the second quarter.

Junior Bill Motherway (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) cut the lead in half once again just 1:21 into the second to make it 6-3, as Sahakian collected the assist. But Plattsburgh scored four of the next five goals - all coming out of the stick of Brett McClelland, who finished the game with five goals. His four straight included the first two of the second half to make the score 10-4.

Continuing in the third period Manhattanville got goals from freshmen Conor Reeves (Tappan, N.Y./Tappan Zee) and Corey Steimel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo), who both notched their first career goals. Plattsburgh finished the frame with another score and took a comfortable 12-6 lead into the final quarter. Junior Dom Poletto (Engelwood, Colo./Regis Jesuit) played the final 2:55 of the third period after McClernon came off the field to catch his breath after taking a shot to the mid-section.

McClernon retuned in the fourth quarter and made four saves in the stanza while yielding five more goals to Plattsburgh. Manhattanville also got three more goals from freshman Connor Castleman (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), sophomore Brian D'Iorio (Huntington, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) and Miller to cap off the scoring for the Valiants at nine.

In goal for Plattsburgh Gordie Gehring made four saves to collect the win for the Cardinals, while backup Chris Guzzetta made one save in the final 2:38 of regulation. McClernon took the loss in his first career start, while Poletto made two stops in just under three minutes of work.

Lyons at 1:00 p.m. Plattsburgh (3-0) will continue their season opening road trip to Collegeville, Pa. when they take on Ursinus on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
