Women's Lacrosse Succumbs to Oneonta, 21-7

Freshman Ashley Hess tied for the team high with two goals and an assist on Saturday.
Box Score ONEONTA, N.Y. – SUNY Oneonta struck for the first nine goals of the contest and never allowed Manhattanville into the game as the Valiants succumbed to the Red Dragons, 21-7, in a non-conference women's lacrosse matchup on Saturday afternoon at the All College Field.
 
Kiera McNally and Alexa Anzalone led a balance Oneonta attack with four goals apiece, as nine different Red Dragons scored a goal in the win. McNally (four goals, two assists) and Rebecca Monteith (three goals, three assists) tied for the game high in points with six each.
 
Manhattanville was led in scoring by freshman Ashley Hess (Mountain Top, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas), both of whom had two goals and an assist. Junior Maggie Howley (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) also had a pair of goals and sophomore Brooke Marcimo (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) added one as well for the visitors.
 
The home team wasted little time getting on the board, as McNally scored her first just 42 seconds into the game to put the Red Dragons ahead. Oneonta scored the next eight goals as well, taking a commanding 9-0 lead with 14:57 left to go in the half. Manhattanville scored the next three goals to get back within six, but Oneonta ended the frame with a 5-1 run to take a 14-4 lead into the half.
 
After two scores by Hess and Honovich to open the second half, the Valiants could only score once in the final 22 minutes and allowed seven more Oneonta scores to account for the final margin.
 
Oneonta ended the day with a 40-18 edge in shots. Senior Liz Cooper (Old Greenwich, Conn./The Forman School) made 11 saves for the Valiants, while Annaelise Muscietta made eight saves in the first half to pick up the win for the Red Dragons.
 
Manhattanville (1-5) will return home to take on Wesleyan (Conn.) on Tuesday at 4 p.m., with the game video streamed on GoValiants.TV beginning at 3:50 p.m. Oneonta (3-0) will play their first road game of the year on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Farmingdale State.
