EDGEWATER, N.J. –
The Manhattanville women's tennis team started its spring semester of play on Monday night against Yeshiva, as the Valiants fell by the score of 6-3 to the Maccabees in a non-conference matchup at the Binghamton Racquet Club. The match was a replaying of a match from September that was suspended due to time restraints.

Manhattanville won once in doubles and twice in singles play, but it was not enough as the Valiants dropped their first match of 2012.

In doubles play, senior Gliceida Galarza (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Leonardo da Vinci) and junior Kirstin Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) picked up a win at the third flight, as the tandem bested Yeshiva's Tzippy Carl and Yaffa Jarishow by an 8-4 score. For Hallett, it was her first career victory in her collegiate debut.

Juniors Joeliza Valdez (Brooklyn, N.Y./EBC Bushwick) and Natalie Horton (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) also earned singles wins for Manhattanville as well on the evening. Valdez had a strong effort in her first career match at first singles, taking down Shara Feltheimer, 7-5, 6-3. Horton also made her collegiate debut on the singles court and had very little trouble with Carl, posting a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.

Senior Jackie Solomito (Sea Cliff, N.Y./The Northwood School) also played well in her first collegiate outing, taking Sarit Cohen to a supertiebreaker in their fifth-singles matchup before coming just two points short in a 6-1, 3-6, (11-9) loss.

Manhattanville (1-2) will return to action next Wednesday, March 28, as the Valiants travel to Bard for a non-conference matchup beginning at 6 p.m. Yeshiva (3-5) will close out its regular-season slate on Sunday against Lehman.
