Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – In a match that was shortened by rain, Bard defeated the Manhattanville women's tennis team by the shortened score of 5-0 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening at the Bard Tennis Courts.
The Raptors jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles matches and clinched the victory by winning the first two singles matches before the skies opened up and the remainder of the matches were halted for the night. Bard led the remaining four singles matches, but they will go into the books at unfinished.
Bard dropped only two games in the three combined doubles matches, with only the second-doubles tandem of senior Gliceida Galarza (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Leonardo da Vinci) and junior Kirstin Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) able to take two games off their opponents, Sofio Commito and Madeline Turner.
Commito and Jean Wong defeated junior Joeliza Valdez (Brooklyn, N.Y./EBC Bushwick) and senior Kim Kunces (Darien, Conn./Darien) at first and second singles, respectively, to complete the five points needed to clinch the win.
Manhattanville (1-3) will begin the Freedom Conference portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants welcome Misericordia to the Manhattanville Courts beginning at 1 p.m. Bard (6-4) returns to the courts on April 11 at home against Union.
