ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Manhattanville women's tennis team could not get past Eastern in the Valiants' third Freedom Conference match of the season, falling to the host Eagles by the score of 9-0 in a conference contest held on Saturday afternoon at the EU Tennis Courts.

It was another rough day on the courts for Manhattanville, as Eastern ceded more than four games in only one singles match and in none of the three doubles matches.

On the doubles court, the closest match came courtesy of seniors Gliceida Galarza (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Leonardo da Vinci) and Giovanna Lamorte (/) at the second flight, as the pair fell to Kim Kirk and Jacquelyn Saunder by an 8-4 score.

In singles play, freshman Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) nearly took her fourth-singles match with Martha Dietz to a supertiebreaker, falling in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

Manhattanville (1-6, 0-3 Freedom) will close out non-conference play on Thursday afternoon, as the Valiants travel to Hunter for a 3:30 p.m. matchup. Eastern (7-3, 1-2 Freedom) will travel to Lancaster Bible on Tuesday for a non-conference contest starting at 3:30 p.m.
