Women's Tennis Comes Up Short at Ramapo

Box Score MAHWAH, N.J. – The Manhattanville women's tennis came up short at Ramapo on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the host Roadrunners by a 9-0 score in the Valiants' non-conference finale.
 
All six Ramapo entries were dual winners on the afternoon. Jywel Almirante led the charge for the home team, as she did not lose a game either in her first-singles match with senior Kim Kunces (Darien, Conn./Darien) or alongside Nicole Pitts in their first-doubles win over Kunces and senior Gliceida Galarza (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Leonardo da Vinci).
 
Junior Kirstin Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) and freshman Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) got two games off of Brittany Pitts and Hayley Downing in second-doubles play, while junior Natalie Horton (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) won a team-best four games in a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Pitts in their fourth-singles matchup.
 
Manhattanville (2-8, 0-4 Freedom) will close out its 2011-12 season on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants face off with King's (Pa.) in a Freedom Conference matchup starting at 1 p.m.
