Box Score NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Manhattanville women's lacrosse team scored the first and last goals of the game, but in the middle came 18 straight Connecticut College tallies as the Camels dealt the Valiants an 18-2 defeat in a non-conference meeting on Thursday afternoon at Silfen Field.
Juniors
Melissa Goncalves (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) and
Maggie Howley (Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) scored the two goals for the Valiants, with Goncalves opening the scoring and Howley closing out the goals. For Howley, it marked the ninth straight game in which she scored at least one tally, as she remains the only Valiant to score in every game they have appeared in this season.
Maura Brazel led Connecticut College with a game-high four goals, while teammate Bri Miller had three goals and three assists for a team-leading six points. Eight other Camels found the net as well in the win, as the home team spread around the offense.
Connecticut College took the game to Manhattanville after Goncalves' opening goal 3:28 into the contest, as it took Lowell Abbott just 61 seconds to tie the score at one. The home team scored 12 more times in the opening half, as the Camels used a decisive 27-4 edge in shots to jump out to a big halftime lead.
The Valiants had a 9-6 shot advantage in the second half, and yet the Camels still registered five of the six goals scored in the frame to complete the victory.
For the game, Connecticut College posted a 33-13 edge in shots as well as a 16-6 advantage in draw controls. Manhattanville did have a lead in ground balls, edging the home team by a 22-21 margin, led by a game-high five from Howley.

Emy Cote (Saint-Hubert, Quebec/Dawson College) suffered the loss, making eight saves before senior
Liz Cooper (Old Greenwich, Conn./The Forman School) took over for the final 4:30 of the game. Kelsey Burke earned the win for Connecticut College by making four saves in the first 40:00, while Jen Morgan stopped one of the two shots she faced the rest of the way.
Manhattanville (2-8) will return to Freedom Conference play for the second time on Tuesday afternoon, as the Valiants travel to Eastern for a 4 p.m. matchup. Connecticut College (4-6) will take on NESCAC foe Amherst on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
