Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville Valiants men's soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to three after a victory over the Brooklyn Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon on GoValiants.com Field. The Valiants got goals from seniors
Moshee Kelyana (Scarborough, Ontario/Brebeuf College) and
Sebastian Siring (Gothenburg, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) in the team's second and final match of the 2012 edition of the Valiant Classic.
The game began with freshman
Dylan Moser (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) making his first career start, and taking two quick shots out of the gate. The first was stopped by Bulldog's netminder Stamatis Boundouris, while the second was off target. As time ticked into the 31st minute freshman keeper
Willie Silber (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) was forced to make his first and only save of the afternoon in net for Manhattanville.
In the 37th minute of action the Valiants subbed in six of their regular starters after several reserve players got the chance to start the game. One of the subs included senior
Eros Olazabal (Milton, Ontario/Bishop Reding), who instantaneously changed the offensive dynamic and was able to send one into the Brooklyn net, however the play was ruled offside and the game remained scoreless.
Several minutes later the horn sounded and the Valiants and Bulldogs headed into the locker room with the game still scoreless. In the first half Manhattanville led in terms of shots by a 5-3 margin. The home team also took one corner kick to the Bulldogs' none.
In the second half Siring took a long pass from deep within his own zone and dodged around a defender as well as the goalkeeper and dribbled the ball into the goal to give Manhattanville the 1-0 lead at 50:30 of the ball game. Momentum clearly shifted in favor of Manhattanville at that point.
The ensuing six minutes saw the Valiants take a pair of corner kicks and six shots, with the sixth shot coming off the foot of Kelyana, who received a pass from the far side of the field from junior
Kyle Cassidy (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel). Kelyana then sent the ball home to give Manhattanville a two-goal cushion.
Down the stretch of the game the Valiants and Bulldogs played a fairly even matched 30 minutes as Manhattanville out shot their guests by a 6-5 margin during the time frame. The final shot totals were in favor of Manhattanville as they doubled up with a 20-10 shot advantage, corner kicks were also in favor of the Valiants who led 4-1 in that category.
Junior
Zach Benton (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs) came on to start the second half and went on to earn the victory as both Valiant markers were scored when he was in goal. Both Benton and Silber earn credit for a half-shutout each, as the two combined to make five saves on the afternoon.
