Hot-Shooting Hamilton Cools Off Valiants in Non-Conference Defeat

Box Score CLINTON, N.Y. – Hamilton shot a blistering 75.0 percent from the field in the second half and 58.2 percent for the afternoon as the Continentals took down Manhattanville by an 85-69 score in non-conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Scott Field House.

Manhattanville managed to have two of the game's top-three scorers for the afternoon, as senior Jack Bramswig (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) netted 21 points and sophomore Anthony Maestre (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) chipped in 19 points. But the rest of the team combined for only 29 points, whereas Hamilton got a game-high 25 points from Matt Hart and saw five other players have at least seven points apiece.

The game started out promisingly for the visitors, as Manhattanville scored 15 of the first 20 points to jump out to a 15-5 lead with 4:53 gone by in the first half. Maestre had eight points and sophomore Juan Camacho (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/New Horizons) had four during the early run. The lead was still 10 at 22-12 with 11:03 to go following a three from junior Wills Flynn (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian), but the Valiants made only three more field goals the rest of the way to allow the Continentals to come back.

Manhattanville still held the lead until a Hart layup made it 32-31 Hamilton with 1:33 remaining in the half. Two free throws each from Flynn and Maestre helped the Valiants still go into halftime all square at 35-all despite taking only 23 shots in the first 20 minutes.

Hart and his team came out firing on all cylinders to begin the second half, as Hart himself scored 10 points during a quick 12-0 run that put Hamilton up 47-35 just 3:26 into the stanza. A three by sophomore Andrew Winter (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) temporarily quelled the run, but the home team continued its stellar shooting and the Valiants could not get closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Manhattanville finished the day shooting 42.6 percent (23 for 54) from the field, shooting the ball especially well from beyond the arc (7 of 12).

The Valiants will be back in action on Monday night, as the squad hosts Hunter in a non-conference matchup beginning at 8 p.m. at Kennedy Gym.
