Box Score MILTON, Mass. – Down by two goals headed into halftime, the Manhattanville women's lacrosse team saw Curry score 10 unanswered tallies over the final 30 minutes as the Colonels took down the Valiants by a 19-7 score in a non-conference matchup on Friday night at Walter M. Katz Field.
Ana Bottary led all players with five goals and seven points to pace the Colonel attack, and she was helped along by four goals apiece from Haley Carey and Mel Brickey as well as three goals and an assist from Deanna Monfredo.
Junior
Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) had a team-leading four goals for Manhattanville, followed by senior
Melissa Goncalves (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) with a pair of tallies and junior
Brooke Marcimo (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) with one for the visitors.
Honovich scored the game's first two goals to give Manhattanville an early 2-0 lead 3:36 into the contest, and the visitors still held the lead at 4-2 on a score from Marcimo 7:04 into the frame. However, Curry scored three straight tallies on both sides of Honovich's third score of the game to open up an 8-5 lead with 9:39 to go in the half.
Goals by Goncalves and Honovich less than a minute apart got the visitors back within one at 8-7 late in the half, but Monfredo scored with 1:19 remaining to give Curry a two-goal lead headed into the intermission.
The second half was a frustrating 30 minutes for Manhattanville, as the Valiants went over 28 minutes before their first credited shot of the frame, which came with 1:30 on the clock. Meanwhile, the Colonels fired 19 shots toward the net of sophomore
Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter), scoring on 10 of those opportunities to secure the victory.
Shaughnessy had another busy day between the pipes for the Valiants, turning aside 13 shots. Curry's Chrisina Wallis made three saves to earn the win. Curry posted a 35-13 edge in shots for the game.
Manhattanville (1-6) will return home to GoValiants.com Field on Sunday, as the Valiants host Saint Joseph's (L.I.) for a 1 p.m. matchup. The live GoValiants.TV coverage will begin at approximately 12:55 p.m.
