#7 TCNJ Too Much for Women's Lacrosse in 15-2 Loss

Box Score EWING, N.J. – The College of New Jersey, ranked seventh in the latest IWLCA Div. III National Poll, was too much for the Manhattanville women's lacrosse team on Thursday night, as the Lions rolled to a 15-2 victory in non-conference action at Lions' Stadium.
 
Jillian Nealon led all players with five goals and three assists for eight points, followed by Alex Spark with five points (four goals, one assist) and Jen Garavente with four points (three goals, one assist). Senior Melissa Goncalves (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) accounted for both Valiant goals with one tally and one assist, while junior Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) also scored for the visitors.
 
TCNJ took care of things early on, posting a 20-2 edge in shots over the first 30 minutes of play and taking a 12-0 lead into the intermission. Spark started the scoring 58 seconds into the game, followed by Lauren Pigott and Nealon 12 seconds apart to make it 3-0 less than two minutes into the game. The Lions continued to control play during the first half, as sophomore Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) faced a constant pressure and made seven saves on 19 shots.
 
The Lions eased up considerably in the second half, taking only 10 shots and scoring just three times. Goncalves broke up the shutout bid 1:22 into the second half to make it 12-1, and Honovich scored off a pass from Goncalves 22 minutes later for the visitors' only other score.
 
For the game, TCNJ posted a 30-7 edge in shots. Shaughnessy made seven saves during the first half to suffer the loss, while freshman Caitlin Sosa (New York, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) made five saves on eight shots over the final 30 minutes of play.
 
Manhattanville (1-8) will finish up non-conference play on Tuesday, when the Valiants travel to Western Connecticut State for a 7 p.m. matchup.
