Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – On a beautiful day for lacrosse, Manhattanville's offensive production was stymied by the offensive production of the Clark Cougars resulting in a 19-7 win for Clark University in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field. After outshooting Clark 12 to six in the first quarter, Clark dominated possession the remainder of the way, finishing with 34 shots on goal, compared to Manhattanville's 22.

It was a long day in net for goaltender Ian Reill (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) as he turned 14 saves on 31 shots in 50:46 of action before being replaced by sophomore George Madan (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) who was able to record a save on three shots in 9:14.

Despite falling to a 1-0 deficit just over three minutes into action freshman midfielder Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac), extending his point streak to six games, made a nifty move to get some space and snuck a shot past Clark's senior goaltender Kevin Ranta to even the game at one.

After Murray's goal evened things up Clark took control from there and tallied two goals off the stick of Peter Christiansen before Manhattanville's Ed Motherway (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) scored to bring the Valiants within one. Unfortunately for the Valiants, their 3-2 deficit was the closest they would be for the remainder of the afternoon.
Clark put away three straight goals, giving them a 6-2 lead before Connor Normandin (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) fired a bounce shot from a tough angle, through traffic, to make it a 6-3 game.
The Cougars responded with three more goals before Cory Balog (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) registered his man-up tally with 1:53 remaining in the first half.

After Colin Morrissey (Shelton, Conn./St. Joseph) scored the first goal of the second half, his fourth in the last three games, the Cougars rattled off seven unanswered goals to take a commanding 16-5 lead over the Valiants with just over 12 minutes to play in the fourth quarter.

Motherway picked up his second goal of the game with 10:08 remaining in the fourth and freshman Connor Daly (Rockville Center, N.Y./South Side) scored his second goal of the season, this one coming in a man-down situation.

It was a tough loss for the Valiants as they were unable to create enough turnovers to keep themselves in the contest. With a very productive offense, the Valiants have the ability to score just as well as any team in the league, but without forced turnovers, their offense hasn't had the chances it needs to put the team in a spot to win.

The Valiants now have a few days off before heading to Merchant Marine for a 7 pm game on Wednesday. Next Saturday marks the beginning of Freedom Conference play when Manhattanville heads to Pennsylvania to take on DeSales University for a 4 pm faceoff.
