Top-Seeded Eagles Hand Valiants Second Loss in a Row, 18-7

Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Manhattanville men's lacrosse team was unable to upset top-seeded Eastern University, falling by a final score of 18-7. The Eagles' offense was propelled by a lethal group of attackers, headlined by four-goal performances from both junior Grant Ferguson, who now has 48 goals on the season, and junior Eric Waibel, who now has 27 goals on the season.

While the Valiants jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to freshman Ed Motherway (Suffield, Conn./Suffield)'s snipe into the lower left-hand corner, the Eagles battled back to even the game just 70 seconds later. Picking up the first two goals of his collegiate career, Manhattanville's Darius Christmas (Hackensack, N.J./Paramus Catholic) was unable to spark the Valiants offense, which was outshot 28 to 15 in the contest.

Eastern entered the match with the top man-up unit in the country and they continued their dominance, converting on both of their man-up opportunities. Meanwhile, the Valiants were unable to find the back of the net in either of their man-up chances.

After taking a 2-1 lead in the first quarter the Valiants were dismantled, giving up six unanswered goals to the Eagles before finally getting on the board again in the second quarter, as freshman Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) picked up his 15th goal of the season. The Eagles would pick up three more goals before Murray put in his second of the game.

After being outscored 6-1 in the third quarter, the Valiants played the Eagles close the remainder of the way, outscoring the Eagles 2-1 in the fourth quarter. The loss officially ends Manhattanville's playoff chances.

With two games remaining on the schedule the Valiants head to FDU-Florham on Wednesday, April 22, and then conclude the season on Saturday, April 26, as they take of the Misericordia Cougars at GoValiants.com Field.
