Valiants Offense Lacks Production in 12-4 Loss to FDU-Florham

Box Score MADISON, N.J. – The Manhattanville men's lacrosse team suffered another Freedom Conference loss on Tuesday, falling to the Devils of FDU-Florham by a final score of 12-4. In a game that lacked offensive production from the Valiants, the team registered four goals on a total of 15 shots on-goal. FDU-Florham was led by attackers Connor May and Frank Reda, each finishing with multiple goals on the evening.

Leading the Valiants in scoring was junior midfielder Cory Balog (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) who scored two of the four goals for the team, including a man-up tally. Also finding the back of the net were freshman attacker CJ Paniccia (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley) and junior Connor Normandin (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell). Ian Reill (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) was busy between the pipes as he turned away 17 of the 29 shots he faced on the evening.

After falling into a 2-0 hole in the first quarter, Normandin put home his fourteenth goal of the season. The Devils would pick up two more goals before Balog cut the lead in half, firing home a shot from inside the circle.

The flow would continue the same throughout the first half, with the Devils scoring two goals and Manhattanville answering back with one. It wasn't until 14 seconds remaining in the first half that FDU-Florham's Matt Melnik picked up his eleventh goal of the season, acting to permanently give the Devils the momentum needed to win the contest.

After a three goal first half, Manhattanville was held to just one goal in the final two quarters while surrendering five goals to the Devils over the same stretch.

The loss drops Manhattanville to 1-14 on the season. The team will return home for the season finale against Misericordia this Saturday. The Senior Day matchup will be the last for Eric Brown (East Brunswick, N.J./East Brunswick)'s Valiant career and the team will look to send him off in style with a win. Faceoff will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
