Honovich Nets Seven as Women's Lax Closes Out 2014 at Misericordia

Senior Casandra Honovich had a game-high seven goals in the 2014 season finale.
Box Score DALLAS, Pa. – Senior Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) scored a game-high seven goals in her final collegiate contest as the Manhattanville women's lacrosse team closed out the 2014 season on the wrong end of a 22-11 defeat by Misericordia in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon at McGeehan Field.

Already the school's all-time scoring leader, Honovich tacked seven more tallies onto her record total for Manhattanville (1-15, 0-6 Freedom), giving her an even 250 goals for her career, averaging just under four goals per contest in 64 career games. She ends her stellar career with 280 career points as a Valiant, second all-time, in addition to a program-record 185 draw controls.

No player had more than four goals for Misericordia (7-8, 4-2 Freedom), which was led by Melina Juliano's four goals and four assists for a game-high eight points. Liz Mulvey also scored four times for the Cougars, while Brooke North had three.

The Valiants were done in by a difficult first half on Saturday, as Misericordia scored 14 of the game's first 17 goals to take a 14-3 edge into halftime. Juliano had the same number of goals as the Valiants over the first 30 minutes, as the Cougars posted a 19-8 edge in shots.

Manhattanville started the second half strong, getting two goals each from Honovich and junior Meghann Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) to make a dent in the deficit and bring the Valiants back within eight at 15-7 with 23:25 remaining. However, the Valiants got not closer the rest of the way, thanks in part to a fourth Juliano tally that stemmed the tide.

Sophomore Caitlin Sosa (New York, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) made five saves for Manhattanville, which was only outshot by a 31-27 margin thanks to a 19-12 advantage in the second half. Katie McLoughlin made eight saves and Erika Proctor added two in relief for Misericordia.

Saturday's contest marks the end of the 2014 season for the Valiants and the final collegiate contest for Manhattanville seniors Honovich and Brooke Marcimo (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury).
