PURCHASE, N.Y. – For the first time since 2013, the Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team will play in the postseason on Wednesday as the third-seeded Valiants travel to second-seeded Misericordia University for the MAC Freedom Tournament semifinals.

POSTSEASON HISTORY: Manhattanville is making its third MAC Freedom Tournament appearance since 2012 and its fourth postseason appearance overall since joining the MAC in 2008, and have never been seeded higher than fourth in any of their previous three postseason contests. The Valiants have never played a team other than FDU-Florham in MAC postseason play, losing to the third-seeded Devils in 2009 and top-seeded FDU in both 2012 and 2013.
LAST MEETING: Misericordia came to Purchase and dealt Manhattanville its only home loss of the season, a 14-8 defeat on April 8. The Valiants outshot the Cougars 33-17 and controlled 18 of 26 draws in the game, but Katie McLoughlin made 17 saves to give her team the victory.
ALL-TIME SERIES: Manhattanville is 5-4 all-time against Misericordia, but the Cougars have won the last four games by a combined score of 71-28.
RECORD-SETTERS: Manhattanville tied a program record with 11 wins during the regular season, matching the record of 11 set in 2009. The five-win improvement from last season is already the largest single-season jump in wins in school history as well.
GETTING OFFENSIVE: Manhattanville boasts one of the top scoring offenses in the MAC Freedom this season, ranking second in the conference with 205 goals scored in 16 games (12.81 gpg) and leading all conference schools by averaging over 31 shots and 23 shots on goal per game this year. Carly Weiss (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), who scored 47 goals with 29 assists for 76 points this season and earned three MAC Freedom Player of the Week honors, as well as sophomore
Kat Reilly (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North), who scored 38 goals to pick up All-Conference second-team recognition.
POSSESSION IS KEY: Manhattanville has three players who can be counted on to get possession off the draw. Weiss leads the team with 52 draw controls this season, while All-Conference seniors
Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) and
Olivia Drew (York, Maine/York) have combined for 96 draw controls this year and rank first and seventh, respectively, all-time at the school in the category.
ABOUT THE COUGARS: Misericordia boasts a conference-best five players on the All-MAC Freedom first team this season. The team is led by McLoughlin, the two-time MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Year, who has recorded an 8.10 goals against average and .539 save percentage in 14 starts in 2017 and ranks 20th in D-III in save percentage. Kaila Quinlivan earned MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year honors as well after scoring 33 goals with 20 assists for 53 points to go with 62 draw controls and 34 ground balls.
Olivia Garcia leads Misericordia in points with 56 thanks to 22 goals and a conference-best 34 assists, while Liz Mulvey is the team's scoring leader with 37 goals along with 11 assists for 48 points. Brianna Ladner leads the Cougar defense, recording 47 ground balls and 34 draw controls while causing 37 turnovers. All three players joined McLoughlin and Quinlivan on the All-Conference first team.
WHAT'S AT STAKE: The winner of this game advances to the MAC Freedom Championship game on Saturday, where they will take on the winner of Wednesday's other semifinal, featuring top-seeded FDU-Florham and fourth-seeded King's (Pa.) College. That game will be played on the home field of the highest remaining seed.
