Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College women's tennis team earned a 5-3 victory over Purchase College on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The win moved the Valiants one step closer to Skyline Conference postseason play.
Manhattanville (4-5, 3-3 Skyline) took two doubles matches and three singles matches to earn the win over Purchase (2-7, 2-3 Skyline). In doubles play, the Valiants secured victories at the first and second doubles spots. At first doubles, sophomore Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and senior Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) won by a score of 8-7 (3). At second doubles, senior Sunny Tonnesen (Oslo, Norway/EF Academy) and sophomore Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) defeated their opponent by a score of 8-3.
The Valiants' victories in singles play came from the third, fourth and sixth positions. At third singles, Lovejoy won 6-1, 6-0, at fourth singles, Ulzheimer won 6-4, 6-1 and at sixth singles freshman Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) won by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Tonnesen was unable to finish her match at second singles due to darkness.
The Crimson and White's next match is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 16, against St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn. The match is set to take place at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y., but stay tuned for updates because inclement weather may cause the match to be rescheduled.
