Box Score QUEENS, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's tennis took care of business Friday night, Oct. 18, at the Billie Jean King United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Tennis Center in Flushing, defeating St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn by a score of 8-1 in Skyline Conference play.
 
With the victory, the Valiants (5-5, 4-3 Skyline) can no finish no worse than in a tie for fourth place in the final regular-season conference standings, while the Bears (3-8, 1-5 Skyline) will end the season in seventh.
 
Manhattanville began with the sweep at doubles, in order, to go up 3-0 early. Sophomore Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) and junior Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) swept their opposition at first doubles 8-0. The second doubles team of sophomore Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) and senior Sunny Tonnesen (Oslo, Norway/EF Academy) followed with an 8-4 victory and the duo of freshman Ella Brown (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and sophomore Tatiana Harris (Manhattan, N.Y. /Frank McCourt) closed with the 8-5 at third doubles.
 
Charley kicked off first singles by making quick work of her foe 6-0, 6-0, followed by Ulzheimer at fourth singles winning 6-1, 6-2 – her win sealed the victory for the Valiants. Lovejoy won her match at third singles 6-3, 6-1, but the Bears were able to take second singles 6-2, 6-3 over Tonnesen. Rookie Amaya Carver (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Vernon) came in at sixth singles and notched the 6-3, 6-0 win next, and Harris closed out the night with the 6-4, 6-2 win at fifth singles.
 
The Valiants now await their fate as several teams need to play in order to finish out the standings. Should the qualify as the fourth seed, the Skyline semifinals take place Thursday, Oct. 24, at the higher seed.
