Women's Tennis Drops Tight Match Against Kean

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- The Manhattanville College women's tennis team fell at the hands of Kean University by a score of 5-4 at home on Saturday, Sept. 21. The team battled hard but was unable to earn its first win of the season. 

The Valiants split their singles matchups but were unable to secure two of the three doubles matches to earn the victory. Manhattanville (0-2, 0-1 Skyline) was able to defeat Kean (5-2, 0-2 NJAC) at the first three singles positions. At first singles, sophomore Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) won by a score of 6-1, 6-1. At second singles, senior Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) won 6-4, 6-1 and at third singles senior Sunny Tonnesen (Oslo, Norway/EF Academy) recorded a win after Kean's Samantha Luu withdrew. She led in the first set 3-0 before Luu's withdrawal. 

Manhattanville's lone doubles win came from Charley and Lovejoy at the first doubles spot by a score of 8-7 (7). The difference in the match was the second doubles spot. It was a tight match, but unfortunately Tonnesen and sophomore Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) fell to Kean's Jan Bayanin and Wilmers Matais by a score of 8-7 (3). 

The Crimson and White will return to action again tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 22 at home on the Manhattanville Tennis Courts against The Sage Colleges. They will look to tally their first win of the season.
