Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. — The Manhattanville College women's tennis team had its first match of the season at home on Sunday, Sept. 8, against Skyline Conference for Yeshiva University. The Valiants fought hard, but unfortunately lost a tight 5-4 contest.
Manhattanville (0-1, 0-1 Skyline) was led at singles by sophomore
Renay Charley (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union) who won 6-2, 6-4 in the first singles slot. The Valiants also secured a victory at third singles from senior
Sunny Tonnesen (Oslo, Norway/EF Academy) who defeated her opponent 6-2, 6-4 as well.
The Crimson and White picked up two more wins in doubles play. Charley and senior
Izzy Lovejoy (Madison, Conn./Forman School) picked up an 8-2 victory at first doubles and the pairing of Tonnesen and sophomore
Kelsey Ulzheimer (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey) picked up an 8-6 victory in the second doubles slot. The four match wins were unfortunately not enough to topple Yeshiva (2-0, 1-0 Skyline), who was able to fight back after going down early in doubles play.
The loss put Manhattanville at 0-1 on the season and 0-1 in Skyline Conference play. The Valiants will have an opportunity to notch their first win at home on Saturday, Sept. 21, against Kean University on the Manhattanville Tennis Courts.
