STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's and women's track and field team competed in the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartan Invite yesterday, January 11. Both programs competed against tough Division I, II and III teams and came ahead of them in a few events. A few personal records were set at this invitational as well as a new school record. Senior
Lucas Dellaporta (Branford, Conn./Eagle Hill School) beat his own Manhattanville all-time 3000-meter record set in 2019 by six seconds.
The first event of the day was the men's 60-meter dash. The top finisher for the Valiants was sophomore
Nicholas Noel (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) who came in 46th place out of 81 opponents. Noel finished with a time of 7.60 ahead of Division II athletes. Following him in 54th place was junior Charlie Dohery who crossed at 7.68. Third for the Valiants was sophomore
Jordan Laevsky (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) with a time of 8.17.
The top runner for the women's 60-meter dash was senior
Tori Tinelli (Thornwood, N.Y./Westlake) in 69th place with a time of 9.32. Her time and effort placed her ahead of a Division II program. Freshman
Gabby Rios (Bohemia, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and freshman
Altyn Dashly (Ashgabat, Turkmenistan/School #43) also competed in this event and notched a time of 10.29 and 11.13 respectively.
In the women's one mile junior
Christina Anderson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) ran a time of 6:46.88. As for the men's one mile, junior
Papa Mamadou Diop (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) set a new personal record as he beat his previous time by 11 seconds. Diop placed 19th out of 33 runners, ahead of Division I and II programs and clinched a time of 4:35.64.
The next running event for Manhattanville was the men's 400-meter dash. Senior
Matthew Cruz (Queens, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) placed 39th out of 52 runners finishing in 55.00. This time set a new season best for Cruz taking .15 seconds off his previous time. Next to Cruz in 45th was sophomore
Bryan Grant (Yonkers, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) who shaved nearly two seconds off of his personal record, he clinched a time of 56.85. Not far behind was junior
Matt Zivan (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland) with a time of 59.87.
In the 200-meter dash, crossing back-to-back on the men's side was Doherty and Noel in 64th and 65th respectively. Doherty finished in 24.88 as Noel finished in 25.04. For the women, Tinelli finished the 200-meter dash in 32.50.
Up next was the men's 3000-meter run and senior
Lucas Dellaporta (Branford, Conn./Eagle Hill School) set a new Manhattanville all-time record as he beat his previous record set at the NYU Invitation in 2019. Dellaporta yesterday ran a 3K in 9:08.13 beating the previous record by six seconds. His time placed him 13th out of 22 competitors. Junior
Shane Kimball (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) also ran the 3K and set a new personal record. He beat his old time by 15 seconds after notching a time of 9:24.97.
Junior
Corey McKenna (Roxbury, N.J./Roxbury), Cruz, Grant and Diop placed 20th in the men's 4x400 relay as they ran a time of 3:48.09.
Over on the field, sophomore
Justin Gonzalez (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) competed in the men's long jump. He placed 30th jumping for a distance of 5.40 meters. He also competed in the men's triple jump where he finished 16th jumping for 11.43 meters.
Senior
Josh Beauchesne (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel) and freshman
Joe Ramos (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) each threw in the men's shot put. Beauchesne threw for 9.60 meters placing 45th as Ramos threw 7.55 meters clinching 56th place.
The next invitational Manhattanville will participate in is the Ramapo Invite this Friday, Jan. 17. This event will start at 10:00 a.m. in New York at the Armory.
