Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College men's basketball team fell to Yeshiva College by a score of 98-76 in the team's first game of 2020 -21 season. It was the first competition by any Manhattanville team in 347 days. Senior forward
Sean Smith, Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart) and junior guard
Jake Dunn (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) led the Valiants in scoring with 22 and 19 points, respectively. Smith also led the team in rebounds with nine.
The two teams traded threes to start the first half. The game then went back and forth for much of the first 20 minutes of play. The Valiants (0-1) took the lead twice in the first 10 minutes of play. An and-one opportunity from senior guard
Wesley Kra (Queens, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy Memorial) gave Manhattanville a two-point advantage at 19-17 with 11:50 remaining in the half. The Maccabees (1-0) then raced out to an eight-point advantage before finally ending the half with a 49-41 lead.
Yeshiva continued their steady pace in the second half, but the Valiants continued to fight. Dunn hit four threes in the second half to keep the team's hopes alive. He would eventually finish 5-7 from beyond the arc. The Maccabees eventually began to pull away and finally won the game by 22, putting up 98 to Manhattanville's 76.
The two teams will match up again, tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 14 at Yeshiva. Tip-off is set for 2:00 P.M.
