Manhattanville College To Add Men's Volleyball as Varsity Program Starting in 2023

1/27/2022 12:17:00 PM

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College Department of Athletics and Recreation and Manhattanville's Director of Athletics and Recreation announced today, January 27, the addition of men's volleyball as the 24th varsity sport sponsored by the college. The Valiants will compete in the Skyline Conference starting in the 2023-24 season, with men's volleyball becoming Manhatanville's 17th program competing in the conference.

"We are thrilled to continue to expand the athletic opportunities we offer to students here at Manhattanville College with the addition of men's volleyball," said Julene Caulfield, director of athletics and recreation at Manhattanville. "Given the success of our women's volleyball program as well as our intramural volleyball league, men's volleyball is a natural fit for our campus and our community."

The addition of men's volleyball continues the recent ongoing expansion of athletics at Manhattanville College. Earlier this month, Manhattanville Athletics announced the addition of junior varsity baseball for the 2022 season. Manhattanville also began sponsoring women's rugby as a varsity sport in Fall 2020.

"I would like to thank President Geisler and Dr. Cindy Porter for their continued support of the Department of Athletics and Recreation," said Caulfield. "Their guidance has been instrumental as we continue to expand our sport offerings."

Manhattanville will become the ninth team to compete in Skyline Conference-sponsored men's volleyball. Currently, The College Mount Saint Vincent, Purchase College, Sarah Lawrence College, St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn, St. Joseph's College-Long Island, and Yeshiva University are the full-time Skyline members to compete in men's volleyball, while New Jersey City University and Ramapo College compete as affiliate members. NJCU were the 2021 Conference Champions, defeating St. Joseph's College-Long Island in five sets to earn the crown.

With the announcement of men's volleyball, the Valiants immediately begin searching for a head coach to help usher in the latest era of Manhattanville College Athletics.
