PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Skyline Conference announced its Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams this afternoon, with
Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) being named the Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Pretnar, along with
Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and
Suzi Doyle (Devon, England/Exeter College) were selected to the Conference's First Team, while
Keto Karkashadze (Tbilisi, Georgia/New School International) was named to the Second Team.
Pretnar served as the Valiants' top position player all season long. This year's accolade will be her second Skyline First Team appointment of her collegiate career. Pretnar collected nine No. 1 singles wins on the season including five regular season conference victories and a huge 6-2, 6-4 win in the championship match. She would also earn nine doubles wins in the No. 1 position.
Ortiz had a brilliant rookie season which would be capped off by a perfect 10-0 record in the No. 2 singles position, playing the No. 3 slot from time to time. This would be highlighted by a 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 win in the Skyline Championship to lead the Valiants to a 5-4 victory. In the No. 2 doubles flight, she would earn a 9-1 overall record with a pair of wins in the conference semifinals and finals. Throughout the season, she would be recognized as Skyline Rookie of the Week twice.
Doyle would also put together a strong rookie season, finishing 9-1 in the No. 3 singles slot earning seven conference wins. The Devon, England native would also earn nine victories in the No. 2 doubles flight with Ortiz as her partner, going 7-1 in conference play. She would be named Skyline Rookie of the Week once when the team closed out their nonconference schedule earlier in the season.
Karkashadze would round out the Valiant honorees, going 5-5 across her singles matches this season playing in the No. 4 slot. She would go 3-4 in conference play, defeating Mount Saint Mary, Purchase, and Sarah Lawrence. The sophomore would also earn nine wins in the No. 1 doubles flight with Pretnar as her partner.
The Valiants defeated St. Joseph's Long Island on Thursday evening in the Skyline Conference Championship Finals to secure their first title in 17 years. The team will return to the courts in the springtime before heading to the 2023 NCAA Division III Tennis Championships in May.
