GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Manhattanville College track and field teams began their outdoor season on Saturday at the Stockton Invite. Despite rainy and windy conditions, the Valiants competed well with two personal records broken to set the stage for the rest of the season.
George Davidson-Dennis (Jamaica, N.Y./Forest Hills) set a new personal best in the discus throw by ten feet, finishing ninth overall with a 28.97m mark. The effort moves him to second all-time in Manhattanville's record books. Joining Davidson-Dennis with a new top mark would be
Fiona Yostpille (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon Senior) who shattered her previous best by 15 feet in the discus throw, hitting a 25.07m mark and moved to third in the all-time rankings.
It was a busy day for the Valiants as they had 11 athletes competing throughout the event. For the women, Jennifer Schmidt ran in the 100m placing 17
th with a time of 14.48.
Tomoka Asakuma (Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan/Yokohama Futaba) and
Hlande Romain (West Chester, N.Y./Mount Vernon)e would also participate, finishing 25
th and 27
th respectively with times of 15.64 and 15.81.
Angelyne Silverio (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) would be the lone Valiant running in the 400m, finishing 23
rd with a time of 1:21.59.
Making her collegiate debut for track and field would be
Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School) who had a 16.98m discus throw and finished 18
th. She would also compete in the shot-put event, finishing 28
th with a 6.19m throw. Yostpille also competed in shotput, throwing 6.98m and finishing 23
rd overall. On the men's side, Davidson-Dennis would finish 19
th with a 9.42m shotput throw.
The men's 100m would show plenty of Manhattanville participation as
Jimmy Ascencio (Bronx, N.Y./Salesian) led the pack, finishing 21
st with a time of 12.15.
Jared Thomas (New Rochelle. N.Y./Salesian) and
Carmello Green (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) would cross the finish line soon after, placing 38
th and 39
th with times of 12.99 and 13.01. For the 200m,
Jaivan Burgos (Bronx, N.Y./NYC iSchool) finished 21
st clocking in at 24.69, while rookie
Zach Garrant (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill High School) would compete in his first event of the season by finishing 34
th with a time of 26.71.
Roberto Schneiger (New York, N.Y./Urban Academy Lab) and
Daniel Baldessarre (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) would compete in the 800m finishing 15
th and 17
th with times of 2:27.00 and 2:32.70.
Darlig Delgado (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore Senior) would be the lone Manhattanville runner in the men's 1500m, finishing 46
th with a time of 5:52.21. For the 3000m, Schneiger and Baldessarre would finish in 31
st and 3
rd place with times of 11:18.05 and 11:18.64, respectively. To round out the men's competition would be the team of Green, Ascencio, Thomas, and Burgos competing in the 4x100 relay finishing 7
th overall with a time of 52.63.
It will be a busy weekend coming up as the Manhattanville College track and field teams will hit the road and head to the Ramapo Season Opener next weekend, Mar. 31 and Apr. 1. They will then travel to USMMA on Apr. 2 for the Coach Omeltchenko Invite.
