How We Got Here

The Valiants ended their 2023 campaign on a 30-game win streak going 34-4 overall on the season and a perfect 18-0 in Skyline Conference play. They would get a first-round bye with an automatic bid to the championship tournament.

Farmingdale State would earn the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye after finishing the regular season 23-10 overall and 15-3 in conference play, the three losses coming from a sweep by Manhattanville and a split with St. Joseph's Brooklyn. They will now take on the Bears in their first game of the tournament on Thursday.

To make their way to the championship, No. 3 St. Joseph's Brooklyn would take on No. 6 Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday evening in the first round after a 25-12 regular season. The Bears would come out victorious 1-0 against the Dolphins in the bottom of the ninth after reaching on a fielder's choice and advancing on a throwing error to score.

Rounding out the final four teams is No. 4 Mount Saint Mary College who ended their season 20-17 with a 12-6 record in conference play. The Knights defeated Old Westbury on Tuesday evening, 2-0 and would score both runs in the sixth off an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to center field. They will now take on Manhattanville in the opening game of the Skyline Tournament.

The No. 1 Manhattanville College Valiants are on the prowl for a Skyline chip as the team looks to build off of a successful regular season and take that going into the postseason.

On the mound, Charli Shinstine (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) has had a phenomenal season to lead the Valiant rotation with a 0.66 ERA. Sporting a perfect 19-0 record with seven shutouts, pitching 116.2 innings and striking out 170 throughout the season, Shinstine will look to improve upon her totals as Manhattanville heads into the postseason. Emily Mottoshiski (Craryville, N.Y./Taconic Hills) has also been an asset to the Valiants on the mound, going 15-4 overall with a 2.66 ERA. She has pitched 102.2 innings striking out 65 batters and adding seven shutouts.

At the plate, senior Sarah Harker (Irvine, Calif./Irvine) has been a powerhouse hitter for the Valiants, averaging .458 while getting 43 runs on 55 hits. She would total 11 doubles, seven triples, and four homeruns throughout the season as she would hold a team-high .767 slugging percentage. Rookies Juliana Parkes (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Belmont Secondary) and Sydni Brooks (Anaheim, Calif./Cypress) would finish the regular season with a .404 and .402 batting average, respectively. They would combine for 54 runs on 73 hits with 15 doubles and two triples with a single homerun coming from Brooks.

The team has a stacked order of veterans from the likes of Jayleen Torres (Bellflower, Calif./Downey), Amaya Esparza (Descanso, Calif./Granite Hills), Samantha Walsh (Spring City, Pa./Owen J Roberts), Olivia Fasce (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), and Melissa Lopez (Whittier, Calif./California) while adding Samantha Reyer (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), Isabella Tansey (San Diego, Calif./University City), and Madison Gonzales (Azusa, Calif./Sacred Heart) as freshman to the roster. Manhattanville has a few tricks up their sleeves that the Rams, Bears, and Knights better come prepared for during this weekend's tournament.
