POSTSEASON PREVIEW: Women’s Lacrosse Hosts St. Joe’s Long Island for Skyline First Round

PURCHASE, N.Y. – For the second-straight season, the No. 4 Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team will be taking on the No. 5 St. Joseph's University Long Island Golden Eagles at GoValiants.com Field for the opening round of the Skyline Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship. The Valiants will look for a similar outcome as last season where they defeated the Golden Eagles, 16-9, to punch their ticket to the semifinals game.

How We Got Here:
 
The Valiants fell in their regular season finale, 14-3, against Farmingdale State to drop to the No. 4 seed in the Championship Tournament. Maura Kelly (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) would score a pair of goals in the contest, while Marisa D'Angelo (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) and Kerry Carr (New Hartford, N.Y./Millbrook School) would each net one tally. Abbey Playle (Reading, England/Leigh High School) would contribute a team-high 11 draw controls as Britney Sirota (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) would make ten saves in net, giving up 13 goals. 
 
The fifth-seeded Golden Eagles finished their season with an 11-10 overtime victory against Maritime on Saturday afternoon. Five players would contribute with goals in the win, as Kayleigh Mimnaugh would lead with a team-high four goals. In net, Maggie Harding would have 13 saves on 23 shots, only allowing ten goals. They would finish 6-6 overall on the season and 5-3 in Skyline Conference play. 
 
Last Time Out: 
 
The Valiants were on the road for their regular season matchup against the Golden Eagles on Apr. 21. Both Kelly and Carr would score four goals in the 15-11 victory. Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) would add three, as D'Angelo would score a pair. Sydney Natale (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and Ally Petricca (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) would each tally a goal for the Valiants. In net, Sirota would make 15 saves Overall, Manhattanville's offense was lacking compared to St. Joseph's as the Valiants would only get off 29 shots to the Golden Eagles' 37. They were able to pull through and secure the win to improve their record and eventually meet the program record threshold.
