GREENWOOD, Ind. – College Sports Communicators (CSC) has announced its Academic All-District® Track & Field/Cross Country Teams for the 2022-23 season, with three Valiants being selected to the teams.
Florence Harrison (Melbourne, Australia/Balwyn High School),
George Davidson-Dennis (Jamaica, N.Y./Forest Hills) and
Angelyne Silverio (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) were each named to the teams following their performances in the classroom as well as at Manhattanville's meets over the course of the year.
The academic criteria for the Track & Field/Cross Country Teams is a cumulative grade point average of a 3.50 or higher. Student-athletes needed to have completed at least one calendar year at their current institution to be considered eligible. Athletically, student-athletes were not required to compete in all three seasons of cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field; rather, student-athletes needed to participate in a minimum of half of the competitions in one of the three seasons.
Harrison made her track debut this year as a thrower in the outdoor season. The sophomore participated in all five meets the Valiants competed in throwing events for, making her first appearance in the discus and shot put at the Stockton Invite. She would climb her way into the program record books over the course of the season, posting the fifth-best discus throw of 22.12 meters at the Osprey Open and Multi while recording the seventh-best javelin throw at the Skyline Conference Championship with a 14.55 meter throw. Harrison also competed in the discus and shot put at the Conference Championship meet. The global and international studies major carried a 3.71 GPA through the conclusion of the Fall 2022 semester.
Davidson-Dennis served as the primary thrower on the men's track & field team this year, competing in five meets during the outdoor season and six overall on the year. After opening up the year by competing in the shot put and weight throw at the indoor Elm City Challenge, Davidson-Dennis competed at all five meets during the outdoor campaign that the throwers participated in. At the Coach Omeltchenko Invite hosted by USMMA, the junior posted a distance of 31.18 meters in the discus, setting a new program record. Davidson-Dennis went on to compete in the discus, shot put, hammer throw and javelin at the Skyline Championships, placing fourth in both the discus and shot put. A musical theatre major, Davidson-Dennis had a 3.66 GPA entering the spring semester.
Silverio ran in all three cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field seasons over the course of her junior year. In the fall, she ran in all five cross country races as she would make the Skyline All-Sportsmanship Team. Her top finish would come at the Purchase College Invitational where she placed 19
th with a time of 25:19.1. She would go on to run at ten track meets in the 2022-23 campaign, five indoor and five outdoor. During the indoor season, Silverio posted the ninth-fastest 400 time in program history of 1:13.99 at the NYU Invitational. She continued to etch her name into the program record book during the outdoor season with then tenth-best times in the 400 (1:13.03) and the 800 (2:54.97) while also running in the 4x400 tandem that posted a time of 5:00.75 at the Skyline Championships, good for the fifth fastest in program history. A marketing major, Silverio's GPA was a 3.59 following the conclusion of the fall semester.
All three Valiants will appear on the Academic All-America® ballot, with those teams to be announced at the end of June.
