Men's Tennis Falls to STAC in Spring Opener

Box Score ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Hitting the courts for the first time in the spring semester, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team was defeated by Division II opponent Saint Thomas Aquinas in a 7-0 match. The Valiants officially open up the season 0-1 after competing in a pair of invitationals in the fall semester.

With the match featuring programs from two separate divisions, the three doubles matches were counted for one point in the match scoring. In the top flight, James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) fell 1-6 to Tobias Fuerschuss and Don Vinz Lominoque. Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) and Griffin Forberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) fell 0-6in the the No. 2 showing against Henry Ronnberg and Seth Newman, an identical fate that Carter Hunter-Crump (Denver, Colo./Centaurus) and Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) would face against Lennart Lehmann and Ludovico Truffelli in the No. 3 flight.

The Spartans went on to sweep all six singles contests to wrap up the 7-0 overall win. Loganadan had the most success for the Valiants as he squared off with Ronnberg in a 2-6, 2-6 loss in the No. 3 flight. Goodwin and Forberg were blanked 0-6, 0-6 in their No. 2 and No. 4 matchups against Newman and Alberto Espinosa, respectively. Hunter-Crump fell 1-6, 0-6 to Ivan Laiz om the No. 6 court, while Guzman was defeated 1-6, 1-6 by Nathan Yacar in the No. 5 flight. In the final matchup that lasted almost an hour, Hourihan fell to Lominoque 2-6, 1-6 in the top flight.
