POSTSEASON PREVIEW: Men’s Tennis to Host Merchant Marine for Skyline Semifinals

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University men's tennis team begin postseason play as the No. 2 Valiants host the No. 3 United States Merchant Marine Academy in the Skyline Conference Championship Semifinals on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.

How We Got Here

The Valiants earned their fourth-straight tournament berth, claiming the second seed in the Skyline Conference Championship. They completed the season with a 9-0 win over Sarah Lawrence last week to improve to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play. The trio of doubles teams blanked the Gryphons, 8-0. James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) won a 6-1, 6-0 match in the top flight as Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport) took a 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) came out victorious at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win, while Carter Hunter-Crump (Denver, Colo./Centaurus) earned a 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 4 singles slot. Newcomers Thomas Hitchcock (New York, N.Y./Glenholme School) and Justin White (Brooklyn, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends School) both secured their first collegiate wins at No. 5 and 6 singles.
Merchant Marine make their fourth-straight tournament appearance, earning the No. 3 seed in the Skyline Championship with a 4-2 conference record. The Mariners' pair of losses came from Manhattanville to begin the conference season and Farmingdale with a 9-0 loss midseason.

Manhattanville went to Kings Point on Apr. 6 to begin conference play. The Valiants earned a 6-3 victory taking two of three doubles matches and going 4-2 in the singles flights. The full scores from the match are below:
