PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University men's tennis team slated their first win of the 2025 season this afternoon. The Valiants faced off against Lehman College earning a 5-2 victory with a determined five-member squad. With these results, Manhattanville now stands at 2-2 overall while conference play still awaits.
With a five-man lineup, the Valiants had to take the third court loss from the start. Over on the No. 1 court, Lev Uitterhoeve (Maastricht, The Netherlands/Porta Mosana College) and Mario Alcala (Madrid, Spain/Hoosac School) outclassed Richie Magaribi and Hashir Rizvi, defeating the pair, 6-0. Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) and John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) took over on the second court, defeating Juan Rodriguez and Taishawn Brownlee 6-0 to secure the doubles point.
Springing into singles action, Manhattanville started off down one point on the No. 6 court due to limited players. Uitterhoeve leveled the singles score finishing first for the Valiants dominating Brownlee in straight games and sets 6-0, 6-0. Guzman took over the first flight outplaying Magaribi 6-1, 6-0. Soccer goalie turned tennis player Dylan Von Brook (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) showcased his skills defeating Kosmas Fertitta Boutis on court No. 5, 6-0, 6-2. The Valiants now stood at 4-1 with one final match still performing. Curtin had the closes match of the contest taking it to a tiebreaker. Ian Lanter took the first set for Lehman, 6-3. Fighting back point by point in the next set took the score to 7-6 in Lanter's favor.
With these results, the final score of the contest was 5-2 with Manhattanville on top. The Valiants demonstrated a prevailing performance in Manhattanville's home opener of their 2025 campaign.
